Smithfield HS students create mural for Sentara St. Luke’s

SMITHFIELD, Va. (WAVY) — Smithfield High School students created a mural for the community room of Sentara St. Luke’s outpatient campus, the first project as part of the nationwide America250 project which highlights the importance of local history in the founding of the United States.

More than 60 Smithfield High art and history students took part in the project, which was done to put some vibrance into a community room open for free to any local non-profits.

More than 15 students took part in the unveiling of the finished mural, and they were joined by Sentara Obici Hospital president David J. Masterson, Smithfield High principal Patricia Cuffee, director of secondary instruction for Isle of Wight County Schools Dr. Marsha Cale and the president of the Isle of Wight County Historical Society.

Sentara St. Luke’s is a 42-acre healthcare campus that has a two-story, 52,000-square-foot medical office building.
