EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – KTSM hits the road again and this time our cameras are visiting Columbus, New Mexico, an incorporated village in Luna County, as part of our Small Town Spotlight series.

Located just about 3 miles north of the Mexican border, this village flies under the radar but holds so much history. This is the site where, a little over a century ago, the U.S. was invaded by a foreign army- known as the first foreign invasion on us soil during the Mexican Revolution.

This raid occurred in March of 1916, and Pancho Villa led it… This is a name we will hear often during our newscast today. Pancho Villa was a Mexican revolutionary and general. He played a vital role during the outbreak of the revolution and led the raid into Columbus, where over a dozen Americans were killed, and the center of town was burned… After, he retreated into the mountains in Mexico.
