SLPS seeks public input for future plan

ST. LOUIS – The leadership of Saint Louis Public Schools met face-to-face with community members during a roundtable-style forum at Roosevelt High School Tuesday evening.

Superintendent Keisha Scarlett said the district wants community input as it creates a strategic five-year plan. That plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

Parents in attendance appreciated the opportunity to be heard. A representative from the district’s leadership team was available at each table.

“I think open communication is going to be the best way to go and to achieve and overcome any sort of problem,” Katie Sesti, parent of two students in the district, said.

Scarlett also addressed the issue some parents have raised about bus transportation reliability. The district is in the process of replacing Missouri Central School Bus, which will be ending its contract earlier than anticipated.

The superintendent said the district is working hard to address the issue and believes there are additional steps that could help with transportation issues.

“Instead of having students maybe traveling all across the district for different schools, we’re trying to make sure we move maybe into neighborhood pathways, those types of opportunities for students,” she said.

Three more meetings will provide additional opportunities for community feedback.

The additional forums will begin at 6 p.m. on April 18 at Metro High School, May 2 at CVPA/Collegiate and May 7 at Clyde C. Miller Career Academy.
