Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico was shot 2-3 times, possibly in the limbs, chest, and stomach, as 4-5 shots were fired in total, the Slovak newspaper Plus One Day reported on May 15.

The incident occurred in the town of Handlová, located 150 km from Bratislava. The shooting took place in front of a building where Fico was meeting with his supporters. Slovak media reported that Fico approached a group of people who were greeting him when several shots were fired, causing the Prime Minister to fall to the ground.

Security personnel lifted the Prime Minister from the ground, carried him to a car, and drove away.

Slovak law enforcement officers have detained the suspected shooter and cordoned off the area.

According to the media, someone from the crowd shouted “Robo, come here,” and then shots were fired.

Publication, citing it's sources, claims that Fico's condition is very serious.

“He has a gunshot wound of stomach and arm," an unnamed source said.

The announcement that Fico had been shot appeared on his Facebook page, stating that his life is in danger.

According to the post, there is a threat to the Slovak Prime Minister’s life, and he is being transported by helicopter to Banská Bystrica because the flight to Bratislava is too long, and surgery is urgently needed. The next few hours will be decisive.

Reuters published photos from the scene of the shooting, showing security personnel evacuating Fico and the arrest of the suspect.

According to Plus ONE DAY, Fico suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm. His condition is very serious but not life-threatening. "He is currently out of danger. He will undergo surgery," an unnamed source told the publication.

Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová condemned the attack on Fico and expressed her support for the Prime Minister's recovery. "I strongly condemn today's brutal and ruthless attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. I am shocked. I wish Robert Fico a lot of strength in this critical moment to recover from the attack," Čaputová wrote on her Facebook page.
