SLO police: Suspected DUI driver barrels through Caltrans work yard, crashes into dump truck

A suspected driver under the influence crashed through the fence of a San Luis Obispo Caltrans facility in the early hours of Thursday morning, hitting a dump truck.

According to a post on X from the San Luis Obispo Police Department, the SUV veered off Madonna Road near the Higuera Street intersection, crashed through the fencing around the Caltrans equipment repair work yard and hit a Caltrans dump truck.

Photos from the scene of the crash posted by the Police Department showed significant damage to the front end of the SUV and a large hole in the fencing around the work yard.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, while the SUV’s passenger was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries, the department said.

The name of the driver was not released.
