SLO airport is adding a bunch more flights — but dropping another. Here’s what’s changing

The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport will soon discontinue its direct flight to Las Vegas — but also plans to add five direct flights to its schedule.

Travelers will soon have more options to fly to Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas Fort Worth and San Diego from San Luis Obispo, the airport announced in a news release Thursday.

“These developments underscore our dedication to enhancing the travel experience for our community and visitors, and we look forward to continuing to serve as a gateway to the Central Coast region,” Director of Airports Courtney Johnson said in the release.

SLO airport to lose Las Vegas flight, expand others

In December, Alaska Airlines launched its first non-stop flight from San Luis Obispo to Las Vegas as a “test run” to evaluate its popularity.

Alaska Airlines will discontinue the Las Vegas flight on April 15, but “the airlines will assess the performance of the route to determine future service opportunities,” the release said.

Meanwhile, the airport expanded flight options to other cities.

On Thursday, Alaska Airlines resumed direct flights to Portland International Airport and launched a second daily direct flight to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, according to the release.

On March 31, United Airlines will add a second daily flight from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles International Airport.

“This addition to the airport’s service portfolio further strengthens its connectivity to key destinations and underscores its role as a vital transportation hub for the Central Coast region,” the release said.

Meanwhile, American Airlines will add a second daily flight between San Luis Obispo and the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport starting May 7.

“The new route provides travelers with more flexibility and convenience when planning their journeys to one of the nation’s major aviation hubs,” the release said.

Finally on May 16, Alaska Airlines will add a second daily direct flight to San Diego International Airport, with the goal of providing more options to people wishing to travel to Hawaii, according to the release.
