Slightly unsettled weather through midweek

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Happy Monday, Utah! We begin the workweek with some pretty pleasant weather across the Beehive State as most will check in with mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies and daytime highs reach near or slightly above averages.

In northern Utah, most will see 50s and 60s with a chance some like Salt Lake hit the 70° mark. In central and southern Utah, outside of the high country, we’ll see highs in the 60s and 70s while St. George sneaks into the low 80s.

By the second half of the afternoon into tonight though, a weak system clipping northern Utah will send in a cold front. This will result in a chance of isolated showers and a few rumbles of thunder. Wet weather will generally favor the high terrain, but we could see some showers in our valleys. Past midnight, the chance of wet weather comes to an end as it turns a little chilly in northern Utah with most expected to drop into the 20s and 30s while southern Utah mainly sees 30s and 40s for lows.

Tuesday will bring mostly sunny skies across the state with temperatures that will run cooler compared to what we see today in most spots. In northern Utah, highs will be about 5-10 degrees cooler than today, which will see most along the Wasatch Front in the low 60s. In southern Utah, cooling will be limited and in places like St. George, it will be similar to what we get today.

Another weak system will brush northern Utah on Wednesday and this will drop temperatures by another 5-10 degrees in northern Utah and by about 3-5 degrees in southern Utah. While it won’t be too cold, we’ll only see highs manage the 40s and 50s in northern Utah. There will also be a slight chance of showers up north with showers generally favoring the high country once again.

Temperatures will begin to rebound as we close out the workweek with mostly dry skies outside of a slight chance on Friday with a chance another weak system grazes northern Utah. By Friday, we should be close to seasonal norms across the state with even warmer temperatures this weekend. Above average warmth will take hold over the weekend with Saturday likely being the warmer of the two days. By the end of the weekend into early next week, we could enter a more active pattern, but we’ll keep an eye on that for now and see how things play out as we get closer. Stay tuned!

The bottom line? A couple of systems brushing northern Utah will keep us slightly unsettled and result in cooling temperatures through midweek.
