While you were sleeping: USA dominated the halfpipe, Canada won curling gold
While most of the United States was fast asleep, the Winter Olympics were in full swing on the other side of the world in PyeongChang, South Korea. Luckily we stayed awake to monitor the fun. Here are the most important things that you missed while you were sleeping.
Results Highlights:
SNOWBOARDING: Team USA’s Chloe Kim dominated the halfpipe event in historic fashion, putting down a winning score of 93.75 in her first run. That score had already won her the gold medal by the time she put down a 98.25 in the final run of the day. Rounding out the podium was Jiayu Liu from China, who won silver, and Kim’s USA teammate, Arielle Gold, who won bronze. Team USA’s Shaun White finished atop the leaderboard in the men’s halfpipe semifinal with a 98.50 in his second run.
CURLING: As expected, Canada’s Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris clinched the gold medal in the inaugural mixed doubles curling tournament with a 10-3 win over Switzerland. The Swiss take home the silver while the Olympic Athletes from Russia come away with bronze.
