Sleep is serious for this Wichita firm expanding in Kansas City, opening in Oklahoma

Sleeptopia owner Kevin Kunz said one of the benefits of the pandemic is that people started paying more attention to their health in general, and that means people are more aware of how sleep plays a factor in their health.

“That kind of changed some things,” he said.

His said his business grew by about 25% during that time, and now he’s now expanding again.

Kunz started the business a decade ago with one site to sell in-home sleep study kits along with CPAP machines and nocturnal oxygen supplies, and he expanded to a couple more sites — in Dodge City and Lenexa — in recent years.

Now, he’s expanding in a few different ways.

First, he’s moving the Lenexa branch next door to where it is for more room, then he’s adding sites in Oklahoma City and the greater Kansas City area.

The next Kansas City-area site will be in Lee’s Summit as early as April, and there will be another site in north Kansas City likely by this summer.

“We get a lot of orders from that area,” Kunz said.

He said he decided to close a Dodge City office because he found he didn’t need an office to service that area. He’s now doing it from the Wichita office.

In the future, Kunz said Sleeptopia could expand to Texas where the company’s medical director is.

“He wants to open a branch in Houston.”

Kunz said he’s also looking to partner with a local mattress business as well as a dentist. It’s all part of sticking to the company’s motto, he said.

“We’re trying to branch out ‘all things sleep.’ ”
