Teenager arrested, SLCPD investigating shooting possibly related to domestic violence

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A 16-year-old girl was taken into custody and a 20-year-old man was taken to the hospital after a shooting in Salt Lake on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

“We are investigating a possible domestic violence-related shooting near 750 North 900 West,” SLCPD wrote on social media on Tuesday.

Police said the 20-year-old male victim had a gunshot wound to his leg, and officers performed “life-saving aid” at the scene until medical personnel arrived. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 16-year-old suspect was found and arrested at the scene. When she was arrested, officers also found a loaded firearm.

“Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department Domestic Violence Squad are investigating.,” SLCPD said in a press release. “Preliminarily, officers believe this incident to be related to domestic violence.”

No charges were filed on Tuesday, and detectives have not determined if the suspect will be booked into a juvenile detention center.

The investigation is ongoing.
