Service for slain Utah deputy set for Wednesday

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The memorial service for a Utah deputy fatally shot by a fugitive has been set.

Brother-in-law Johnny Revill tells The Salt Lake Tribune (http://bit.ly/1fLl0AY ) that the service for Utah County sheriff's Sgt. Cory Wride will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Utah Valley University Events Center in Orem.

Wride was shot and killed Thursday from a truck he stopped to help on a rural highway about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.

The suspected shooter, 27-year-old Jose Angel Garcia-Juaregui (how-REG'-ee), died Friday after pursuing officers shot him. He faced an arrest warrant over parole violations.

Another deputy, Greg Sherwood, was shot in the head during the chase. Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon says Sherwood remains hospitalized in critical condition Saturday but is expected to recover.

Wride leaves behind a wife, five children and eight grandchildren.
