Slain Teen Renard Matthews Propped in Front of TV as He's Displayed in Funeral Home

The New Orleans teenager was fatally shot two weeks ago and his family decided to mourn him as he lived.

The family of 18-year-old Renard Matthews decided to mourn him in the same way he lived his life.

The teen's body was placed in a chair, with his hands holding a Playstation controller and samplings of his favorite snacks, including a bag of Doritos, arranged next to him. He is wearing sunglasses, a Boston Celtics jersey, and on the television in front of him, his favorite basketball team is hard at it.

Renard was killed two weeks ago during a shooting in his New Orleans neighborhood. He had been walking his new dog when he was shot and his cellphone was taken, according to his aunt.

A neighbor described him as "a nice young man," Nola.com reported. "Natasha Joseph said her nephew was part of a strong, hardworking family whose mother runs a day care center.

Renard was a high school student who played recreational basketball and football. Authorities have not commented on the killing.

The teen will have a full New Orleans-style jazz funeral on Tuesday. His body is on view at Charbonnet Family Services.
