Skiing season over at Blueberry Ridge Pathway; are any trails still open?

MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WJMN) — A park ranger is calling it quits on grooming fresh ski trails at Blueberry Ridge for the year.

“I was out at Blueberry today,” wrote Van Riper State Park Lead Ranger Ryan Brown in a Facebook post. “there’s a whole lot of ice and dirt, and that’s about it.”

Brown suspended grooming back in January at the popular cross country skiing area. “Little did I think in January when I posted we were suspending grooming that would be it for the year,” wrote Brown.

“I was holding out as long as I could, but it’s time to cut our losses and look forward to summer,” wrote Brown. “We’re calling this season though. The lights were shut off today for the year, and we’re going to start putting everything away.”

Brown thanked everyone who helped support the park through the difficult season, and said he is already looking forward to next season. “I hope it starts snowing in October and doesn’t stop till April!”

The nearby cross-country ski trails at the Noquemanon Trail Network’s Forestville Trailhead was freshly rolled last week, but trail conditions have not been updated since then.

For skiers still looking to get another outing or two in, volunteers with the Valley Spur trail system in Munising posted that this week’s rains did not take out the base there, and that skiers can still get a good glide in.
