Six-year prison sentence for Corning man

A Corning man convicted of two felony counts of false imprisonment with violence has been sentenced in Tehama County Superior Court to six years and eight months in state prison.

Juan Ramon Ramirez, 25, was handed down the sentence in a plea deal with the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office following an arrest and investigation into an attack on an acquaintance of his ex-girlfriend.

Ramirez was located in Chico by an off-duty Corning police officer on Oct. 23 in a vehicle allegedly related to the attack on a 22-year-old Corning man stabbed at least five times in the upper torso, legs and arms two days previous, reported the Corning Police Department.

Officers said the attack occurred in Corning around 4 a.m. and involved the suspect, the stabbing victim and a 21-year-old woman who was battered. The names of the alleged victims have not been released by the police department.

The alleged stabbing victim was being treated at St. Elizabeth Community Hospital for his injuries when the police department was notified of the attack, according to the CPD.

Police said they interviewed the alleged victim, multiple witnesses, processed several crime locations and gathered evidence.

Ramirez was reportedly identified as a possible suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The off-duty officer who located Ramirez in Chico near the Boot Barn on East 20th Street around 6:30 p.m., followed the suspect back to Corning where on-duty officers, with assistance from a Tehama County Sheriff’s deputy and canine, conducted a felony vehicle stop on South Avenue just west of Highway 99W in Corning.

Police said Ramirez was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Tehama County Jail on suspicion of felony deliberate and willful attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, battery on spouse and violation of a domestic violence prevention by the court.

The vehicle Ramirez was driving was reportedly towed and entered into law enforcement’s stolen vehicle system.

The male victim said recently he has fully recovered from the attack, as has the female victim.
