Six injured in hit-and-run involving an Amish buggy near Spring Valley

Feb. 17—SPRING VALLEY — A hit-and-run involving a motor vehicle and an Amish buggy left six people injured.

The incident happened at aout 10:05 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, in rural Spring Valley.

According to Fillmore County Sheriff's Office Investigator Sergeant Dan Dornink, dispatchers received 911 calls indicating a crash in the 29000 block of County Road 1.

Initial reports indicated that a vehicle had struck an Amish buggy with several occupants present. Deputies responded to the scene along with the Spring Valley Ambulance and the Spring Valley Fire Department.

Upon arrival it was noted that there were nine occupants in the buggy, six of whom were transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys in Rochester with unknown injuries. The Spring Valley Ambulance was assisted by the Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service.

A deputy on the scene of the crash reported that the driver of the motor vehicle had fled the scene. The vehicle and driver were later located at a residence in the city of Spring Valley.

Two of the six victims of the crash, ages 12 and 1, remain in the hospital as of this morning. Both are listed in stable condition.

The Fillmore County Sheriff's Office is being assisted by the Minnesota State Patrol to determine the cause and manner of the crash. Watch this story for updates as they become available.
