Six Flags, Santa’s Village? Here’s when Chicago area amusement parks open for the 2024 season

CHICAGO — It’s that time of year when warmer weather is near, summer is on its way — and seasonal amusement parks are ready to open up for the 2024 season.

Along with the anticipated openings, some theme parks will have new attractions this season for visitors to visit and enjoy.

Here’s when the popular Chicago area theme parks and water parks are set to open:

Six Flags Great America/Hurricane Harbor — Gurnee, IL

  • Six Flags Great America will open for the season on Saturday, April 20.

The amusement park is set to open a new thrill ride this season, Sky Striker, a 172-foot pendulum ride that has thrill-seekers sitting in a circle on a spinning disc. The ride will swing back and forth while reaching speeds up to 75 miles per hour.

WGN coaster enthusiast Marcus Leshock broke down Sky Striker back in August in his Coastin’ the Country.

  • Six Flags Hurricane Harbor water park will open for the season on May 25.

Santa’s Village Amusement & Water Park — Dundee, IL

  • Santa’s Village Amusement & Water Park is scheduled to open on May 12 for the season.

According to the park, moms are FREE on opening day in celebration of Mother’s Day! A FREE admission for mom is provided when accompanying a paid admission or season pass holder.

  • Santa Springs Water Park is set to open on May 25. According to the park, Santa Springs will not open if it is 72 degrees and under or is not forecasted to exceed 72 degrees by noon.

Indiana Beach Amusement & Water Park — Monticello, IN

  • Indiana Beach: Amusement Park will open on May 11 for the 2024 season.

The amusement park says a new “mind-blowing coaster” is set to open this season – the All American Triple Loop! “Not one, not two, but three mind-bending loops await you, keeping the excitement soaring at speeds up to 53.4mph and 5.6G’s.”

  • Indiana Beach Water Park is set to open for the season on May 25.

Mount Olympus Water & Theme Park — Wisconsin Dells, WI

  • Mount Olympus Water Theme Park is set to open April 20 for the 2024 season. (weather permitting with limited attractions available)

The water park is expected to open “America’s tallest water slide” this summer, The Rise of Icarus.

  • Mount Olympus Outdoor Water Park is scheduled to open May 18. (weather permitting)
