Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area gate reopens

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The gate at Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area in the Lincoln National Forest reopened under modified hours on May 16.

The gate at the site has remained closed since May 7, 2024, due to ongoing staffing shortages. As of now, staff from other districts have been deployed to open the gate. The site will be open Thursday to Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. It will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

“This is a temporary solution that will allow visitors to enjoy Sitting Bull Falls, while we continue to work towards a permanent staffing solution that will allow us to reopen on our normal seasonal hours,” said Guadalupe District Ranger Jennifer Thomas in a news release.

An announcement will be made to the public once regular hours resume.
