Sister Wives Star Mykelti Brown’s Plans for a Short Engagement Creates Tension Amongst the Family: ‘My Heart Sank’

Mykelti Brown’s engagement is creating waves on this week’s Sister Wives.

In an exclusive sneak peek at Sunday’s episode, Mykelti, 19, sits down with her fiancé Antonio Padron to discuss plans for the nuptials with her parents Kody and Christine Brown, plus Kody’s wives Janelle, Robyn and Meri.

“I’m very excited that you guys are getting married — that’s grand,” says Kody. “You guys are both very young — I won’t say other things that are insulting about that.”

As the rest of the women admonish him (“What?!” he says, defending himself. “They’re young!”), Mykelti reveals that she and Padron are thinking of getting married in August — making for a rather short engagement, considering Padron popped the question in June.

The rest of the group appears stunned.

“When Mykelti was like: ‘Okay, I think August is a good time to get married,’ my heart sank,” says Robyn in an on-camera interview. “I was like: ‘Oh no!’ ”

“You saw my reaction before and I almost had a panic attack,” Christine tells her daughter. “And then Dad went and spoke to Tony.”

Mykelti points out that an August wedding would be two months after Kody and Janelle’s daughter Maddie’s June nuptials.

“I think that’s a very good time,” says Mykelti. “What do you guys think?”

Janelle, however, doesn’t agree and points out that if Mykelti does get married in August, some family members won’t be able to make it.

“I didn’t know what else to say,” Janelle confesses in an on-camera interview. “Because I really was in a place where I was like: ‘You did not hear a thing that anybody said.’ ”

“I am pretty sure that Maddie will feel a little bit encroached upon if Mykelti decides to rush this,” she adds. “She’s pretty emotional right now and I think any kind of news that Mykelti is going to hurry and rush the date will just put her over the edge.”

Kody then jokes that he’s going to have to put on his “negotiation gloves” to talk his daughter out of rushing the wedding.

“Listen, I’ve been married four times and the only time that was long enough was the engagement that was 10 months,” he says. “Here’s the thing: You can give yourself a really, really solid foundation in a relationship by developing a relationship and just figuring out a way to put the physical on the back-burner. When you are just turned inside by your physical needs, by this sex drive, you get stupid. I’m teasing them because I think they’re being stupid.”

Sister Wives airs Sundays (8 p.m. ET) on TLC.
