Sister asks the Internet to send birthday wishes to her 'lonely' autistic brother

The sister of a young man with autism is making a public plea for birthday cards for her brother.

James Weir, 20, is excited about celebrating his birthday next month, but his older sister, Lucy Weir, 23, said he has "no friends" to celebrate with.

Because of his disability, James Weir, who is from England, has difficulty with socializing, which makes tough for him to make friends.

So, determined to see a smile from her brother on his special day, Lucy Weir took to Facebook with a small plea, asking for social media users to send him a birthday message or card on his milestone.

“This is James. My not-so-baby brother and he is turning 21 on the 30th November," his sister wrote. “James has autism and this makes it difficult for him to make friends and socialize. He gets anxious in social situations and finds it hard to communicate effectively with others. Sadly, James has no friends and it breaks our hearts."

“So, I have come up with an idea/surprise for his birthday," her post continued. "I wondered if you kind folk out there will share this post and send James a birthday message or card. Even if he only got a few I know he’d be over the moon!”

His sister told the Manchester Evening News that her brother loves astronomy, and even wanted to pursue it as a career but was told he couldn't due to his disability, which she added greatly upset him and his family.

He is also a huge fan of the Titanic and really likes dinosaurs.

His sister told the local outlet that her brother will be "over the moon with all this attention."

"I can see him smiling for days," his sister said. "Especially being in a local newspaper as he’s always wanted to do something to go viral!”

James Weir will celebrate his 21st birthday on Nov. 30.
