URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The sole candidate for the vacant spot on the Urbana School Board will be seated later this month.

The Urbana School District #116 Board of Education announced in a news release they will appoint Jennifer Hixson to fill the Sub-District 2 vacancy for the remainder of the term.

Ravi Hasanadka resigned from his seat representing Sub-District 2 in February. Hixson was the only applicant for the position.

Hixson previously worked for the school district as an ESL/science and social studies teacher at King School and the Director of the Multicultural Program but retired in 2009. She has also worked as a substitute since retiring.

“I think I would like to sit and take notes while the community input is happening,” Hixson said. “So that the community doesn’t feel like they’re just kind of talking at a wall there, and then they will more a part of the discussion. And I’m hopeful that maybe I can help bring that in.”

Hixson will be sworn in on April 16 at the board’s business meeting. Her appointment will run until April 2025.
