Singapore grapples with return of haze

As pollutant readings surged in Singapore on Friday (22 Aug), people in the city-state donned masks to cope with the return of haze.

24-hr PSI readings ave been creeping up, from the 35-49 range at 1am, to the 71-95 range by 2pm.

Some in the lunchtime crowd at the business district were walking around with face masks provided by their company as a precautionary measure.

The western part of Singapore saw the highest 24-hr PSI reading of 95 as of 2pm, 22 Aug.

The Parliament House, where Singapore late President S R Nathan’s body was lying in state, was also shrouded in haze.

Some without masks made do with handkerchiefs to counter the haze.

Chin Kok Hong, 38, felt irritation in his nose and throat when he woke up this morning. He decided to don a face mask when he realised the haze had returned.
