‘The Simpsons’ Makes Arnold Palmer Joke on Night of Golf Legend’s Death (Video)
The people behind “The Simpsons” are probably wishing they could take a mulligan on a certain joke in last night’s season premiere.
The Fox animated comedy returned for another season on Sunday night with a premiere episode that came complete with an Arnold Palmer joke.
The timing was particularly unfortunate, given that golf legend Palmer had died earlier Sunday at age 87.

During the episode, oafish family patriarch Homer Simpson tells his wife Marge that he plans to “Arnold Palmer” his pal Lenny.
“Arnold Palmer Lenny?” Marge responds. “You’re going to Arnold Palmer Lenny?”
Homer was actually referring not directly to the golfer, but to the mixture of lemonade and iced tea that came to bear his name — and which Homer planned to fill a super-soaker gun with to douse Lenny with.

Still, a pretty eerie coincidence…
“Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean took to Twitter on Sunday night to express his grief over the golf legend’s death, writing, “v v sorry to learn of death of Arnold Palmer what a giant.”
