This Simple Trick Removes Popcorn Ceilings Without The Mess
If there's one feature that we can all agree that we don't like, it's popcorn ceilings. Unfortunately for us old-house lovers, many of our favorite real-estate finds are plagued by crunchy textured toppers. Luckily, the above video makes removing popcorn ceilings easier than ever.
You may have heard of spraying a textured ceiling with water and then scraping the bumpy bits away. And while this works, DIYer Aaron Rollins claims his trick has the same result without the added labor and mess. Rollins duct-taped a spackle knife to the end of a vacuum hose then let the machine go to work suctioning up the dust as he scraped away at the ceiling. Yes, it's seriously that simple!
Note: If your house was built before 1980, test a sample of your ceiling tested for asbestos first. You can buy professional test kits at home improvement stores and online. Asbestos popcorn was banned in 1978 but could still be purchased in the early eighties. Better to be safe than sorry!
