Candace Owens has a history of spreading false conspiracy theories on her podcast. But her latest accusation has everyone calling B.S.

In a post promoting her podcast, Owens said she would “stake my entire professional reputation on the fact that First Lady Brigitte Macron is in fact, a man.”

She then wrote #JeanMichelTrogneux.

First Lady Brigitte Macron, 70, is the wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, 49. The false rumors spread from far-right magazine Faits et Documents which argued that she didn’t give birth to her three children and that her real name was Jean Michel Trogneux. To be clear, there is no evidence supporting this claim.

The comments section under her post about the episode quickly devolved into conspiracy theories about former First Lady Michelle Obama.

“Now do Michael Obama,” tweeted one social media user.

“She was born Michelle Robinson,” wrote another.

For years, conservatives have spread the false rumor that Michelle Obama is a transgender woman. The allegations are rooted in deep-seated misogynoir and transphobia. Trying to prove someone is really a “man” has increasingly become a part of the alt-right and TERF playbook, with accounts dedicated to outing people.

Owens has also worked to spread allegations that former President Barrack Obama is secretly a gay man. In a podcast episode last year, she boosted easily claims for Tucker Carlson that Obama “enjoyed smoking crack and having gay sex.” Again, there is zero validity to these claims.

Owens has made her career as a full-time conservative troll spreading the most vile conspiracies on the internet, so unfortunately, none of this is particularly new territory for her.
