Sig Hansen Medevaced to Anchorage After Experiencing Chest Pains on ‘Deadliest Catch’
Just a year after suffering a massive heart attack, Deadliest Catch captain Sig Hansen was experiencing chest pains while out on the Bering Sea. The captain had just dropped anchor off the island of St. Paul when he started having stabbing pains on the left side of his rib cage.
Despite his taking medicine, the pain persisted. So Hansen decided to visit the St. Paul clinic and err on the side of caution. Hansen said, “Last time, I didn’t think it was anything and it was a heart attack. So that’s what got me all freaked out.”
While Sig was being checked out, his brother Edgar paid a visit to the Saga. But it wasn’t long before some bad news came over the radio from deckhand, Matt Bradley. “They’re running an EKG. They said they had sent results to Seattle. One said yes, the other said no.”
The decision was made to fly Sig to Anchorage, Alaska. Edgar helped his brother to the medevac jet and bid him goodbye. Now Edgar will have to captain the boat while his thoughts are of his older brother. “I’m worried about him. I know I’m scared that it could escalate and get worse. You know, we’re all in this together — I mean, we knew that there was a chance; it just sucks when it’s your family.”
