Showers in store for Southern California on first Saturday of spring
First Saturday of the spring? Mother nature does not care, as plenty of rain is in store for much of Southern California, and some snow is headed to the mountains too.
Rain was coming down as early as 6 a.m. on parts of the SoCal coast and Ventura County, and more was coming in the next few hours.
Rain totals for the non-mountainous areas in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties were expected to be in the one-quarter to one-half of an inch range. Totals could be closer to one inch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.
That rainfall could feel heavy in the late morning but will likely taper off in the afternoon hours, when the wind picks up. Gusts as high as the 50 mile per hour range were expected on the coast of Southern California.
“Plan on a very windy weekend once these winds do pick up,” KTLA’s Kacey Montoya said.
A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service goes into effect at 8 a.m., lasting until 11 p.m. Sunday. In the mountains of Southern California, 12-18 inches of snow were expected above 7,500 feet in elevation.
