Eataly in River North to remain closed through Sunday after shooting on Friday

A man fired a gun inside a River North Italian marketplace Friday morning following a “verbal and physical altercation,” according to Chicago police.

A man got into a fight with two other men about 9:20 a.m. inside Eataly, 43 E. Ohio St., authorities said.

The suspect then pulled out a firearm, which fired during a struggle, police said. No one was hit. The two other men took the firearm and fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

The gunman suffered minor injuries and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Police said the incident remained under investigation, and charges were pending for the gunman.

A spokesperson for Eataly said in a statement that the store would remain closed through Sunday.

“An unfortunate altercation occurred (Friday) between several individuals at our Chicago location,” the statement read. “In response, we immediately notified law enforcement, and they successfully secured the situation. … We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused our valued community.”
