A suspect connected to a shooting involving Auburn running back Brian Battie has turned himself in and has been charged by authorities in Florida,

According to a report by WWSB News 7 in Sarasota, Florida, Darryl Brookins turned himself into authorities with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. Brookins was wanted in connection to a shooting that took place early Saturday morning that injured Battie and killed his brother, Tommie.

The Montgomery Advertiser reported Saturday that the shooting took place at approximately 3:30 a.m. CT at Tallywood Centre Plaza in Battie’s hometown of Sarasota. Battie, along with six others, were injured. His brother, Tommie, died as a result of his injuries.

Battie was rushed to a local hospital, where he was placed in the ICU. At the last report, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze shared on X (formerly Twitter) Monday that Battie had “suffered a setback” on Sunday and remains on a ventilator.

WWSB News says that investigators have not revealed a motive for the shooting or charges against Brookins. Auburn Wire will continue to follow this story and share any additional details as it becomes available.
