A shooting near the Slovak Parliament resulted in Prime Minister Robert Fico being taken to the hospital, Slovak publication Denník N reported on May 15.

A reporter from the publication, who was at the scene, said he did not witness the shooting but was nearby and heard several gunshots. He then saw security personnel lift the Prime Minister from the ground, carry him to a car, and drive away.

Witnesses said Fico had approached a group of people who were greeting him when the shots were fired. Fico then fell to the ground, the publication claims.

The suspected shooter has been detained by the police, who have cordoned off the area.

The story is developing.
