Shooting at Alton Memorial Hospital was not random: Police

ALTON, Ill. – A shooting at Alton Memorial Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning left one person injured, according to police.

Around 1:44 a.m., Alton Police were notified of gunshots at the hospital. The building went under lockdown procedures and the hospital’s public safety team found one individual with a gunshot wound.

No other injuries were reported from the incident. The gunfire damaged one door.

According to a release, a preliminary investigation reveals this incident was not random and the victim was the intended target.

The Alton Police Department is actively investigating. Anyone with information should contact the Alton Criminal Investigations Division at (618) 463-3505 Ext. 634.
