Shippensburg University basketball player named PSAC Freshman of the Year

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Shippensburg University men’s basketball player Markus Frank was named the 2023-24 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Year on Thursday.

Frank set a freshman record this season with 495 points, the most by a first-year in Shippensburg history. Frank led the team this season with 17.7 points per game.

Frank had double figures in 22 of 28 appearances during the season, scoring 20 plus points on 10 occasions and 30 plus points on three occasions.

The standout posted a 40-point game on Dec. 1 in the conference opener against IUP, which was the first time a player had posted 40 points in one game for the Raiders in 28 years. It was also the first 40-point performance during regulation since 1986.

Frank also led the Raiders in steals (37) and was third for rebounding. Frank was 46.5% from the field and 32.7% beyond the arc.
