Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph, in a conversation Wednesday with Vice President Kamala Harris, argued Planned Parenthood and other reproductive health clinics are lifelines for men and women in some communities.

“When we talk about reproductive clinics, understand that — and it's another one of these words people don't want to say out loud — abortion is the very least that they do,” Ralph said at the event in Pennsylvania. “If you were to take Planned Parenthood away from some communities, there would be no place for the women or the men to go for health care.”

Ralph also urged the need to destigmatize going to such clinics:

“People … they've got to understand that they don't go to these clinics just because they've been a bad girl or a naughty lady,” she said. “You go to clinics like this because you need health care.”

“Being a woman is not something to be ashamed of,” Ralph added. “Listen, if a man can get Viagra, I need health care too.”
