Sheriff: Shasta Lake man dies under 'suspicious' circumstances

Shasta County sheriff's officials are investigating the death of a Shasta Lake man as suspicious after he was found earlier this month suffering from wounds from a possible assault.

Deputies were called to a reported disturbance in the area of Lake Boulevard and Construction Way on Oct. 8. When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Alex Stevens suffering from wounds from a possible assault, sheriff's officials said.

Stevens was taken by ambulance to a Redding area hospital, where he died Tuesday from his injuries, officials said.

To preserve "the integrity of the investigation," sheriff's officials said they could not release more details about Stevens' death. Officials did say the public was not at risk following the incident.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call the sheriff's office's Major Crimes Unit at 530-245-6135 or by email at mcu@co.shasta.ca.us.
