Sheriff’s Office says young drunk driver drove with tree stuck in truck

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — When an 18-year-old driver pulled into a gas station Monday morning and passed out, it wouldn’t be long before Ingham County Sheriff’s deputies woke him up. The reason — a large tree that was smashed into, and stuck in the front of his truck.

According to the Sherrif’s Office, the unnamed 18-year-old man from Springport was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Shortly before this a driver in a separate vehicle, near I-96 and Williamston Rd in Wheatfield Township, called law enforcement about a truck at a gas station with a large tree stuck in the front and a man passed out inside.

The Sheriff’s Office said the driver hit the tree at some time after midnight and was found, still intoxicated, shortly after 6 a.m.

Deputies did take the driver to a hospital for treatment and said they would seek Operating While Intoxicated charges against the man.

The Sheriff’s Office did not indicate it knew where the person had hit the tree, how long he had driven like this or if anyone else was injured.
