Sheriff’s Office: Orange deputy involved in shooting at Indigo Winter Park Apartments

A deputy was involved in a shooting Friday night at Indigo Winter Park Apartments on U.K. Circle in Orange County, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At approximately 10:30 pm, deputies responded to a man that was holding a gun and who pointed that gun at several residents, OCSO said.

When deputies arrived, they heard one gunshot and encountered the man, who was still holding the gun, the agency said. A deputy fired their service weapon and struck the man.

Deputies rendered aid and the man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, OCSO said. The man’s firearm was recovered at the scene scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting and will turn over its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for review. Once that process is completed, the Sheriff’s Office will conduct its own internal investigation.

The agency said the deputy that fired the weapon is on temporary paid administrative leave pending the initial FDLE review. No additional information has been released at this time.
