Sheriff: Boyd County mother, daughter found safe in W.Va.
Mar. 14—A mother and daughter from Boyd County who were reported missing on Wednesday night were found safe in Pinch, West Virginia, on Thursday just before noon, according to the Boyd County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff Jamie Reihs said a gas-station ATM withdrawal by the mother in Kanawha County, West Virginia, helped law enforcement locate the 37-year-old woman and 9-year-old girl.
Both are safe. They were found on foot.
According to Reihs, the black Honda Civic she was last seen driving on Wednesday was eventually located about 3 1/2 miles from the mom and daughter on Thursday. It was stuck in the mud on a dirt road.
When found, the mother complained to local enforcement about being thirsty and that she and her daughter had been walking for a while, but she did not indicate to Kanawha County deputies where her vehicle might be at the time.
The grandmother of the 9-year-old girl picked up the two on Thursday and brought them back to Boyd County.
A Sissonville, West Virginia, resident called Boyd County Sheriff's after seeing a Facebook post regarding the missing persons. The Sissonville woman said she saw a car matching the description pull into her driveway twice on Wednesday evening. The woman called 911 after determining that the Boyd County woman appeared to be lost, according to Reihs.
The girl's grandmother — who is not the 37-year-old's mother — called Boyd County 911 to report the mother and daughter missing. On Wednesday morning before 9 a.m., the 37-year-old and 9-year-old left the home — where they all live together along with the mother's other child — in a black Honda Civic and had not been seen or heard from all day Wednesday.
The sheriff said the other child is 3 and went to school on Wednesday. He said the mother had told the grandparents that she and her daughter were going to have a mom-daughter day.
The other child was with the grandparents throughout Wednesday evening and Thursday.
