‘She just crossed the line’: Roseanne Barr faces severe backlash after racist tweet

“It’s always a ‘joke’ after the backlash.” “Sometimes SORRY just doesn’t cut it.” A racist remark that Roseanne Barr made on Twitter had Yahoo commenters up in arms. Many feel she really crossed the line this time. Barr took to Twitter to attack former Barack Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. In the post, which has since been deleted, the comedian referred to Jarrett as the offspring of the “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes.” Barr faced swift fallout after the Twitter rant and decided to apologize: “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me — my joke was in bad taste.” Thousands of Yahoo readers expressed their outrage. “She just crossed the line again. I’M DONE,” said one. Another commenter wrote, “Is anyone really surprised that Roseanne said something offensive?” Wanda Sykes, who’s a consulting producer on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, quit following Barr’s tweet. Then ABC pulled the plug on the show. ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.” What do you think?
