Shasta Reservoir storage above historical average, nearing capacity

(FOX40.COM) — The Shasta Reservoir is nearing capacity after another wet winter, data from the California Department of Water Resources shows.

According to the department’s latest daily report, California’s largest man-made lake currently holds about 4,343,242 acre-feet (af) of water, roughly 95% of its 4,552,000 af capacity.

Rainstorm forecast to soak Northern California

That total puts the reservoir at about 118% above the average it would normally hold at this time of year, which is 3,689,731 af.

Lake Oroville, the state’s second-largest reservoir is similarly 122% fuller than average at 89% capacity.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 100% of the state is drought-free and only 2.68% of California is currently experiencing even just abnormally dry conditions.
