Sharpsville borough building to receive new paint job

May 14—SHARPSVILLE — The Sharpsville borough building will have a new paint job, just in time for summer and the borough's 150th anniversary celebration.

At the Sharpsville Borough Council's meeting Wednesday, council voted unanimously to hire Martin Tyillian of Tyillian Painting to paint the exterior borough building at 1 S. Walnut St.

Tyillian was hired on a $3,400 bid, and was one of two bids submitted to the borough.

Joe Davies of Davies Painting submitted the other bid, $3,800, Sharpsville Borough Manager Ken Robertson said.

"They're both professional painters from Sharpsville," Robertson said of Tyillian and Davies.

Tyillian performed the borough building's last paint job in 2014.

When the borough building was built 42 years ago, it had a beige paint scheme with brown trim. The building is partially underground, built into a hillside.

Tyillian's paint job a decade ago restored the beige color but gave it a more-burgundy trim, Robertson said.

This new paint job will give the building a silver-grey paint scheme instead of beige, along with a "Sharpsville blue" trim, Robertson said.

The borough will cover the cost of paint, which could be about $300, although the exact amount of paint needed will be determined by Tyillian, Robertson said.

The new paint job is expected to be completed by the end of June.
