(WJW) – A shark that researchers have been tracking for almost a year is currently off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina.

The tracking system provided by the non-profit OCEARCH shows the juvenile shark named “Anne Bonny” pinged at about 5:43 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20. According to OCEARCH, a ping is reported whenever an animal’s tag breaks the surface of the water.

According to OCEARCH, “Anne Bonny” is more than 9 feet long and weighs about 425 pounds.

According to her tracker, she appears to have spent the past month roaming the Carolina waters. Traveling past Myrtle Beach and as far north as Bald Head Island, North Carolina.

According to a recent social media post, OCEARCH said, white sharks are ending their overwintering period and transitioning north for the summer.

Early Tuesday morning, two large great white sharks, each more than 13 feet long, were reported not far from one another off of Florida’s east coast. The two sharks pinged within one minute of one another near the Florida- Georgia line.
