Shamokin man jailed following stabbing in Montour County

Apr. 17—DANVILLE — A Shamokin man sought by Danville police for nearly a Month faces felony charges related to a March stabbing.

Dante Maturani, 24, was arraigned Monday on two felony aggravated assault charges and a misdemeanor charge for possessing an instrument of crime.

At around 8:15 p.m. on March 2, Danville police were dispatched to a residence on Vine Street for a stabbing victim. Police were advised the suspect may still be on the scene, according to court documents.

On the scene, police were approached by the victim whose left side was covered in blood. Police said the victim had a shirt tied around his upper left arm.

A witness told police they saw Dante Maturani standing on the sidewalk and the victim with a large amount of blood coming from his arm. The victim allegedly said, "why did you attack me like that," to which Maturani replied, "what are you talking about, you cut me," according to court documents.

Police said there was a large amount of blood around a black pickup truck, which was said to be the victim's, as well as on the roadway, sidewalk and walkway toward the residence.

A friend of both the victim and Maturani allegedly told police he spoke with Maturani following the incident and he claimed the victim had jumped on top of him, causing him to pull out a knife, and the victim threw his arm into the knife. Maturani allegedly told the friend he was going to turn himself in, according to court documents.

On March 21, a post on the Danville Police Department's Facebook page indicated they were searching for Maturani whose last known address was in Shamokin.

Maturani was arraigned Monday in front of Montour County District Judge William Wilt and is being held in Montour County Prison in lieu of a $200,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in front of Wilt for a preliminary hearing on April 23.
