While promoting her new album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women Don't Cry Anymore), Shakira said the "dissolution" of her family brought out her inner "she-wolf." The singer and husband Gerard Pique announced their split in 2022.

SHAKIRA: My life was in pieces after, you know, the dissolution of my family and so many other things that I had to go through. I had to resort to that shewolf within me to be able to survive, you know? And I was in a fight or flight sort of mode for a while.

And nobody chooses to go through the life experience-- the kind of life experiences that I went through while I was writing and creating this album. But, you know, life gives you lemons, so what do you do? You make lemonade. So I made songs.
