SF public restroom installed in Noe Valley neighborhood

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — It’s finally arrived. The highly-talked-about toilet has been planned for installation in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood since 2022.

It was met with controversy when the initial price tag of the toilet was $1.7 million. Thanks to contributions from multiple companies, that price tag has been reduced to $300,000.

SF Recreation and Park Department announced in February that construction for the restroom has begun. Roughly, a month later, the public restroom was installed on Thursday.

‘People may get out of hand,’ at SOTU Pelosi tells KRON4

The toilet is located at 3861 24th St., which is between Sanchez and Vicksburg streets. The restroom will be open for public use sometime between late March and early April.

The property was purchased in 2013, and the design concept was approved by the SF Recreation and Park Commission in 2014, according to city officials. Here’s a timeline of the project since 2023.
