SF is hosting the 67th annual San Francisco International Film Festival

(KRON) — SFFILM has just announced the lineup for the 67th annual San Francisco International Film Festival, the longest-running film festival in the Americas. The festival will be screening exclusively in Marina and Presidio theaters in San Francisco and Berkeley’s Pacific Film Archive from April 24 to 28.

“The cornerstone of this year’s program is the international curation we’re known for,” Jessie Fairbanks, Director of Programming for SFFILM told KRON4. According to Fairbanks, the festival received over 5,000 applicants this year, and an international screening committee watched each film two to three times before picking a showcase winner.

With over 82 film screenings, Fairbanks says directors are showcasing their films from all over the world. Some countries include filmmakers from Bhutan, Pakistan, Senegal, Taiwan, and Ukraine. The festival will screen 45 short films and 37 feature films in total.

The film festival’s opening night celebrates the Bay Area’s own Sean Wang, whose first feature film, “Didi”, won the 2024 Audience Award at the most recent Sundance Film Festival. Wang, who was raised in Fremont to a Taiwanese immigrant family, was also recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short in 2023.

Closing night features “Thelma,” a new work from Josh Margolin that stars the 94-year-old Academy Award nominee June Squibb. Squibb will be in attendance at the festival.

“Now more than ever, we need the art of cinema — to entertain, to provoke, to question and to inspire — and each film in this lineup is richly deserving of our attention,” Fairbanks said.

After the film festival ends on April 28, a selection of titles will be presented from May 2 to May 4 as the SFFILM Festival encore days at the historic Roxie Theater.

Ticket prices for General Admission programs are $20, and $16 for SFFILM Members. Senior, student, and ADA are $19, and Children 14 and under are $11. Tickets for the festival can be found here.
