A sexy Halloween costume resembling Eleven from 'Stranger Things' angers fans

Just last week, people were pretty horrified that there was a sexy Melania Trump Halloween costume in existence. But now another Halloween dress-up offering has been slammed for appearing to sexualize Eleven, the 12-year-old character from the Netflix series Stranger Things.

The “Upside Down Honey” costume, which is available from various websites, might not actually be labeled or marketed as a Stranger Things costume, but it certainly bares a striking resemblance to one of the outfits worn by the character Eleven, played by 13-year-old Millie Bobby Brown.

Eleven’s cute Peter Pan collar on her signature pink dress has been swapped for a cleavage-enhancing neckline, while the hemline has been shortened and Eleven’s trainer-style pumps have been replaced by over-the-knee socks and towering platform heels.

That’s not the only similarity, either: The costume model is wearing a blond wig, which the character dons in the series to hide her shaved head.

She also has blood coming from her nose — something Eleven experiences in the show — and is carrying a waffle bag that makes reference to the character’s favorite snack.

But fans of the series aren’t happy about the ensemble’s sexy shake-up and have taken to Twitter to voice their upset over the $50 costume.

“There’s a sexy ‪@Stranger_Things Eleven Halloween costume. SHE’S A CHILD,” one woman tweeted.

“When do sexy #Halloween costumes go too far??? I saw an ad for a sexy Eleven costume (from Stranger Things) and it was too wrong,” another tweeter wrote.

“Just in case you haven’t reached ur breaking point in 2017 yet, plz enjoy this sexy ‘eleven’ halloween costume,” another fan added.

Other users were unhappy about the overall trend of sexing-up young characters from popular culture.

“STOP SEXUALISING CHILDREN AND RELIGIOUS FIGURES FOR HALLOWEEN!!! IF I SEE ONE MORE SEXY ELEVEN OR NUN IM GONNA FIGHT SOMEONE!!!,” one woman wrote.

It’s not the first time there’s been controversy over sexualized Halloween costumes. Last month, news broke that there was already a sexy pregnant Kylie Jenner Halloween costume available for preorder, even though the reality TV star has yet to formally announce if she’s even expecting a baby.

The sexualization of costumes is nothing new. Last year, we told you about a sexy burka and nine other Halloween costumes, including some aimed at children, that were banned for being “inappropriate.” Perhaps there was just some hope that sexualizing a little girl would not become a Halloween staple.
