Sex offender charged with open lewdness after incident near Schenley Fountain

A 38 year-old man is facing charges after witnesses claimed he was sitting on a bike rack masturbating near Schenley Fountain in Oakland last week.

According to court documents, the incident happen last Monday when a group of young women were taking photos at the fountain. Witnesses told police Jack Myers, 38, was sitting on a bike rack when he put a sweater over his lap, put his hand under the sweater and started making an up and down motion.

Police were called and officers found Myers still sitting on the bike rack. He allegedly told police he was having trouble with the zipper on his pants.

Myers is also a Tier 3 Meghan's Law offender. He was previously convicted of indecent assault of a minor less than 13 years old. Records indicate Myers has also previously violated his sex offender requirements by failing to report a change in address in 2016.

Police said surveillance video in the area also captured the incident. Myers is now charged with disorderly conduct and open lewdness.
