CANCELLED: Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Southern Middle Tennessee

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) –After a dry but partly cloudy Wednesday for the Tennessee Valley, the Weather Authority is tracking a disturbance that will lead to showers and storms.

With plenty of warm air, moisture, and instability in place over the region isolated strong to severe storms will be possible through the evening.

With the threat of strong to severe storms developing, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch which has now been canceled.

A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe storms to develop, it’s important to have a plan in place.

The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed portions of the area, highlighted in dark green, under a ‘Marginal Risk’ (level 1 out of 5) for strong to severe storm development. Areas highlighted in yellow are under a ‘Slight Risk’ (level 2 out of 5).

The primary threat of storms that develop will be damaging winds over 50 mph and small hail. Locally heavy rain will also be a possibility with plenty of moisture content in the atmosphere.

With storms possible this evening make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. The Live Alert 19 is a great way to receive those alerts, you can find directions to download the app here.
