Severe storms possible Wednesday evening around Charlotte

(PINPOINT WEATHER) — It got warmer on Tuesday with the help of more sunshine!

But, that heat and humidity helped fuel the development of a few more strong and severe thunderstorms. The difference from Monday night is that storms will generally fade away after sunset. But a few more showers could start to drift in from the west again early Wednesday morning.

Wednesday will be a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day, as you’ll have to stay extra weather aware from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. A couple rounds of heavy showers and storms are expected, some of which could move in while you’re sleeping Wednesday night. Make sure you have a way to have a severe storm warning wake you up!

Turn off Do Not Disturb on your smartphone, and if you have a NOAA Weather Radio, make sure that it is turned on before bed. Damaging wind gusts and hail will be the two main threats, but a brief tornado can’t be ruled out.

A cold front moving in could bring a few more showers and storms to wrap up the week on Friday, but after it moves east, the weekend is looking better. The humidity goes away… and highs will fall back into the 70s for the final rounds of the Wells Fargo Championship.

Tonight: Lingering clouds, few showers. Low 68.

Wednesday: Scattered showers and storms develop. High 90.
