Severe storm damages Carthage square; How to volunteer

Update

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The City of Carthage released some updates on the damages to buildings and infrastructure following Monday night’s storms.

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado alert was activated around 9:38 p.m.: right around the time the electric company’s computers indicated a power outage at Carthage Square.

Public storm shelters were opened during this period. Storm sirens were not activated, likely due to the rapid changing weather, the city added.

As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, the following parks and facilities are closed by the city for cleanup:

  • Carthage Golf Course

  • Carter Park

  • Municipal & Central Park | Trees down – Caution advised

  • Recycling Center closed for recyclables | Open for limb drop off

Crews are continuing to clear debris and address downed powerlines. Caution is advised while moving through the city.
