UPDATE: Lanes begin to reopen following water main break on Far Hills Avenue

UPDATE: 5:07 p.m.

One lane has reopened for northbound and southbound traffic on Far Hills Avenue between Patterson Road and Spirea Drive, a spokesperson for the Oakwood Department of Public Safety said in an update Monday afternoon.

Beverly Place from Far Hills Avenue to Schantz Avenue remains closed.

INITIAL REPORT:

Several roads remain closed following a water main break in Oakwood early Sunday morning.

As News Center 7 previously reported, the water main break was reported around 1:15 a.m. at Beverly Place and Far Hills Avenue in Oakwood.

Initial scanner traffic indicated that there was deep water across the roadway, causing the closure of the following roads:

  • Northbound and southbound Far Hills Avenue from Patterson Road to Spirea Drive

  • Beverly Place from Far Hills Avenue to Schantz Avenue

News Center 7′s Taylor Robertson learned on Monday morning that the break has been fixed, but road crews are still working to fix the road.

News Center 7 also spoke to Maddie, a woman who lives just a few blocks away from Oakwood High School and right in the middle of the congestion. She told our crew that there’s been a lot of traffic and was concerned about the kids walking to school.

“It might be a little bit hard for the kids to go to school because usually everyone walks to school here,” Maddie said.

Our crew was in the middle of morning traffic on Monday and saw several kids walking to school and plenty of cars trying to navigate the detours. They also watched as a minor accident happen in the middle of the traffic, which is why city officials want people to avoid that area of Far Hills Ave.

Officials said they hope to have the road fully open by the end of the week, but that is still currently up in the air.
